Every woman (myself included) has struggled with insecurities; it's human nature. These days, it's incredibly easy to scroll through IG and compare your looks and lifestyle to those of "it girls." You know, the girls who seemingly always have the best hair, outfits, and social lives.

At 22 years old, I often find myself thinking "where did I go wrong?" and "I'm so behind in life, why am I not living like them?" I'm sure you can relate, too.

Please remember that it is very rare for people to document their real, true lives on social media. Many of your favorite influencers aren't gonna post about their moments of self-doubt and uncertainty.

What if I told you that being an "it girl" starts on the inside? Sure, the glitz and glamour is nice, but none of that matters if you don't feel good about yourself. This is a guide, inspired by my own journey, to help you become your own muse.

How to Become an "It" Girl in 7 Steps

To become an "it" girl, you need to find your life compass! Growing in your faith will help with your confidence and self-esteem. Once you realize your worth, everything else will fall into alignment.

I'm a Christian, so I try to keep God's word hidden in my heart. This ensures that my thoughts, actions, and morals remain healthy. Despite my mistakes, my faith establishes that my self-worth is not defined by others.

Here are a few of my favorite Bible verses that have helped me thus far:

"For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ." - Galatians 1:10

"Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, 'I will never leave you nor forsake you.'" - Hebrews 13:5

"But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me." - 2 Corinthians 12:9

"I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well." - Psalm 139:14

"In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” - John 16:33

Investing in yourself can encompass so many things. Some examples include working out, educating yourself, developing a skill, going to therapy, and taking up a hobby you enjoy.

Whatever you choose should have an end result of happiness, gratitude, and a sense of accomplishment. Be sure to pour into yourself before pouring into others. By no means should you be selfish, but always recognize that "you cannot give to others if you aren't taking care of yourself."

True "it" girls keep their circle close! Your support system is one of the most important things in this life, so don't take them for granted.

Your family and friends will always be there for you with encouragement and advice. Most of the time, they know you better than anyone else. Check in and be there for them as much as possible.

By this point, you should have already taken care of yourself and your needs. Once you check in on your people to support them, the next step is to give to others. The Bible states that God loves a cheerful giver. There's a reason why we are called to give; it helps those in need and fulfills one of our purposes in life.

Try to volunteer or help out an organization in any way, as much as you can. I guarantee that your heart will be full, and you'll be incredibly grateful for what you have.

Be intentional with your time. Set a goal and do your best to stick to it. It's helpful to have an accountability partner, or someone who can check in on a regular basis to ensure you're doing what you're supposed to.

One of my current goals is to write two articles a week, and to begin creating content on social media. I've got two people who will call me out if I'm not getting it done! Take it one day at a time, and try to create a consistent routine.

Don't be so caught up in your goals that you forget to have fun! Now is the time to do those things you've been scared to do. Take yourself on a date, book that trip, try that haircut you've been thinking about!

Always remember that your opinion of yourself is what matters the most. Live it up!

One of my mottos is to "never look like what you've been through." If you're exhausted, still try to put on a cute outfit, do your hair, makeup, etc. This isn't always a priority, but sometimes looking good can change your entire mood!

You may be sad, but at least you're still serving looks. Don't let the haters catch you slipping, boo!

Time for Honesty...

I am still trying to achieve these steps each day. Thus far, I have steps 1, 2, 3, and 7 in action. When I say in action, I mean that I have not yet mastered them, but I'm trying! Accomplishing these things will take time, so give yourself grace. The utmost "it girl" quality is becoming your own muse, and believing in yourself. Hopefully these steps can help you become the best version of yourself!

Grateful & Loved,

Chasney
